The Birds come Flocking – Aero India 2011

The eighth edition of the biennial Bangalore air show, Aero India 2011, is upon us. This five day aerospace and aviation business show shall run from 09 to 13 Feb 11 in the aerospace capital of India. Close to 100 aircraft and related systems shall be on display, with 675 exhibitors participating from almost 45 countries (1). The audience shall witness thrilling aerobatic displays by the IAF’s Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team (SKAT) and  Sarang Helicopter display team; along with Czech Republic’s all civilian Flying Bulls Aerobatics team, performing synchronized flying skills with Czech built Zlin 50 LX aircraft (2). In addition, the Medium Multi-Role Combat Aircraft (MMRCA) contenders shall thrill the audience by showcasing their aerobatic skills. On the sidelines, a large number of aerospace professionals: designers, manufacturers, operators and academia  shall have an opportunity to interact during the seminar on  “Aero and Space Technologies, Success through Global Co- operation” (3). Such interactions are to facilitate collaborative R&D and manufacturing activities in this vital industry. Continue reading

From Conviction to Conviction – An Eagle Reborn

Need for Personal Accountability

This is the second part by Lyle Prouse

I want to be clear about a number of things. First, I make no excuses, I accept complete responsibility, and I openly acknowledge that everything that happened to me was fair and appropriate. Period.

None of us would ever recover if we didn’t have consequences to face. The compulsion to drink is powerful and something must be there to help overcome it. Sometimes it’s the loss of family, job, self-respect, or blistering headlines and a prison sentence. We must “reach our bottom,” where ever that may be. And sometimes the bottom is death. Recovering…or recovered. Does it make any difference?

So…who cares? Each person must find their own level of comfort with this disease in order to accomodate their recovery and achieve – and maintain- their sobriety.

Since alcoholism is a chronic, progressive disease I consider myself recovering vs recovered. Chronic means”it never goes away, or it recurs”. And, as I mentioned in another post, it’s called “Alcohol-ISM…not alcohol-WASM.” Continue reading
